The Family Center was born from the vision of four women who, while working at the NYC Department of Social Services, saw a gap in services pertaining to the needs of families affected by HIV/AIDS. Little was being done to prepare the children for death, mourning and rebuilding their lives. With these families in mind, The Family Center was founded in 1994 to give children a secure future. By providing comprehensive legal and social services under one umbrella, The Family Centers mission was to stabilize families and to help them cope with the implications and gravity of their health situation.
